The answer is “I know very little” I think we all know very little. We all buy fantasy football magazines; join fantasy football websites, message boards, anything and everything that can help us get an advantage..... So we think! ...This year so far I have purchased four different fantasy magazines, joined two different fantasy websites. Now the reason that I say that we all know very little is the simple fact that even the so called experts can’t totally agree on some players. Yeah they all agree on AP going first overall (or somewhere near there). Most agree with each other when it comes to the top ten players at each position. That is not rocket science, most people who are passive football fans, and have never played fantasy football before can tell you who the best players are. After the top ten players at each position things get a little more confusing this is where the different so called experts are very different. Let’s take David Garrard for example, one magazine I have has him listed as the number ten overall QB another does not have him in the top twenty. Let’s look at Knowshon Moreno, one magazine I have has him rated the number fifteen running back and another has him rated the number forty five running back. How can two supposed experts be that far off in their projections? I can see maybe five or six spots, but thirty. Oh yeah and remember you have paid for this information. Good thing it’s an exact science...LOL. What does one guy see that the other does not? People are paying these guys for this information. How do you know who to trust? Well I will tell you who to trust....Drum Roll please.......You should trust your instincts. After all if you are wrong, at least it is YOU who was wrong. And if YOU are right, then YOU get to do all the bragging. Don’t get me wrong I use the cheat sheets from the magazines, mostly so I don’t forget any players when I am doing my own rankings and so I can compare my rankings against theirs. Just so you know I have David Garrard rated number 13 and Knowshon Moreno rated number 20. Are my rankings better than the ones I have read? NO, but they are my rankings and I will stick by them. I think that Moreno is a solid RB3 and a possible RB2 and I think that Garrard is a solid QB2 and a possible QB1. Drafts are going off all over the place right now. When you look at all the rosters usually the first five players will look very good and then the rest of the roster is a matter of speculation. Anybody with very little football knowledge can draft an ok team, but it is the in season management that will be the difference between the winners and the losers. So my final advice to you is to get all the information you can get, but at the end of the day remember IT IS YOUR CALL. A lot of people will be sitting in front of their computers during the draft with a magazine open and using those magazines projections for their drafts. So separated yourself from the masses and do your own projections. Remember that these experts maybe in your league and the lists they have posted might not be their best work; they might be saving that for their own teams. How nice is it to beat an expert at his own craft. Hey who didn`t know that Kurt Warner, Micheal Turner, and DeAngelo Williams were going to be stellar. I am sure all the experts knew. Try and find this years star.

I can tell from what u have written that we have a lot in common with regard to drafting and relying on instinct; I wrote similar in my blog a little while back.
ReplyDeleteI love FF, but I don't know how you can keep up with 20+ teams. I guess if they are all FFOC teams it do'able, but I don't want to have more than 5 or 6.
Anyway, I will make a point of checking out your blog.
GL this year!
I agree 100% about player rankings and so called 'experts'. Go with your gut because who knows how much some of these so called experts even watch football or follow players? Some may just be assigned this job, so they have to wing it?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the blog!
